Before I went to visit my daughter, Julie, I had a go at putting myself on Facebook. That was late February.

I got an email from them, so I must of done something right and I managed a few days ago to finish the registration bit. I had forgotten my password.

I keep getting emails from Facebook with people wanting to be my friends and I have to confirm that I will accept them. I did accept the first few but there are still lots of peope, who I think are from the forum waiting to be accepted (at least I am not going to be Billy No Mates on there). I am assuming that because my email address is registered on this forum and NRAS have a group on Facebook, members of NRAS have been made aware that I have registered myself. I have not mentioned RA in my profile so thats the only conclusion that I can come up with.

I haven't really got a clue of how Facebook works, my other daughter Karen keeps telling me about a wall and open messages and private messages, so until she comes over and shows and explains what to do please don't think I am being ignorant if I don't accept anyone else or reply to any messages. I am not very up to speed with all of this social networking......sad..... but true.

Hi Paula,

Please be reassured that there is no automatic link between any forums with your e-mail address and facebook. People who know your e-mail address can search for you that way (or use your name) but your are not automatically linked to the NRAS grounp or any members. They must just be people who have 'found' you.

I'm really confused now. If there is no automatic link (Julies Post). How do people know that it is me? I think Mel (Inky) was the first to ask to be my friend saying something about being on the NRAS forum. So if you read this Mel can you let me know how you knew it was me?

I put nothing on my profile about having RA. A few others from the forum have asked to be my friend, some know my email address but the majority of them don't. I'm not annoyed about it but just can't understand why.

Hi Paula I too am on FB and have got many friends from NRAS on my FB that you will know If I can find you I will ask for you to add me as a friend if u click on my name before you accept you will see my friends that you will know from on here but I will say that I am from NRAS site get your daughter to make sure you have all the privicy ticked right so only your friends can see your site and nobody that you dont know can see everything. Your friend inky will have recognised you if you have a photo on your FB when they have done a search for you. Hope this is not too confusing hope to see you on FB soon

My husband is not too impressed with the fact that I am on Facebook, he keeps saying I spend too much time on the internet as it is. Perhaps I should let him have RA for a day or two and then he may understand a bit more. He did say when we first had the internet that people who went on it must be very sad........ Well, he is sad for a few hours most evenings.

Thank you Melly for your reply, but I still can't quite grasps how you found me. It may be a little clearer once Karen explains how it works. I thought that you only knew my first name and not my surname. There most be loads of women named Paula on there. Nice to think that you and others took the time to look out for me. My picture is on there though, how I managed that one I don't know, must be a bit more up on computers than I thought I was.

Paula, Facebook tells you of "mutual friends". That is, it suggests that you might know people who are friends of friends. So if you've already accepted some of us as friends, then that will link you to the rest of us and suggest to us that we might like to add you as a friend, if you know what I mean. Sorry, that sounds really complicated. I don't think I've explained it very well, but I'm just trying to say that they're not linking to you through your email address, but because you've already got some of us as friends.

It is a mystery to me too Paula but then I have pregnancy-mush brain plus I am certainly not the computer expert in our house!

The oddest thing happened though- my friend Lauren who I am not FB friends with told me that she had been suggested Mark as a friend! She only knew it was him from the photo. I hadn't even realised he'd set up his FB and wasn't friends with either Lauren or him! He explained it is to do with the software they use and they just randomly pick people who know other people etc etc and somehow that's how occasionally you get people you vaguely know popping up?

If all this doesn't make sense, don't worry, it doesn't to me either! but we can chat about it when I MEET YOU!!!!!!! CAN'T WAIT, I am sick with excitement! LOLOLOLOL

Love,

Amanda

PS; How are the shoes?!

Confused Confused Confused I am still confusedConfused Confused Confused

But then again I suppose that's normal.

I can understand the mutual friends bit, but Melly was the first person to ask to be my friend, so I didn't have any other friends on there for her to be a mutual friend of. (Hope you understand what I mean) I think Facebook is in the Twilight Zone.

Melly.........of course I want you to be my friend on there and anyone else from the forum, but until I know what to do I won't be doing anything on there.

Confused from Nottinghamshire x x x
